Our Approach to Sustainability

Concept of Sustainability

Economic development has always been the focus of human societies because it aims to meet human life needs and, as a result, raise the welfare of societies. Some countries have begun and gone through the process of economic development sooner and more rapidly than some others.

The rapid growth of technology and, consequently, health after World War II caused a sharp increase in the planet’s population. This was followed by economic development, raising living standards, and a dramatic increase in the consumption of natural resources. The further consumption of plastic materials, antibiotics, TV sets, computers, personal vehicles, and comfort objects at homes, air travels, space travels, etc. all were signs of consumerism in rich countries in the hope of achieving greater comfort. This was gradually turning into a global pattern of consumption.

From the 1970s, the scrutiny of social and environmental problems resulting from the development process revealed various constraints that could serve as a barrier to meeting the needs of human life in the future. Therefore, the concept of sustainable development became one of the main strategies for the development of human societies worldwide. Sustainable development here can be defined as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
